What collation means
Collation involves the careful checking of an existing translation by comparing it with the original document. We identify and correct any errors, omissions or inconsistencies, so that the final text is faithful to the original, correct and coherent.
What we check
During the collation process we look at:
- Faithfulness to the original – we check whether the information and meaning of the source document have been rendered correctly and completely, without omissions or changes in meaning.
- Terminology – we check the correct and consistent use of terms specific to the legal, medical, technical, financial, commercial or other specialist fields.
- Linguistic accuracy – we correct any grammar, spelling and punctuation errors, as well as unnatural wording in the target language.
- Consistency of the text – we ensure consistent terminology and a uniform style throughout the document.
- Structure and formatting – we check tables, lists, numbering, notes and other formatting elements, so that the final document preserves, as far as possible, the structure of the original.
